An Invitation to the Process

Gotham Burger Social Club

The creation of Gotham Burger Social Club began with schematics. The client emphasized the importance of ensuring a suitable layout for both customers and employees, as well as compliance with regulations, making circulation a primary consideration. The client was interested in creating a Western, Hollywood, and dive bar-inspired space. With this inspiration in mind, we proposed a dark and moody space with a lot of walnut.

The restaurant was designed to have a variety of seating. All of the millwork in the space was custom-made to fit the different seating areas and bring them together for a cohesive environment. Booth seating wraps around the corner of the space and creates a private dining experience. We added texture to the walls with a woven faux leather texture upholstery, creating a vertical visual appeal and playing on repetition. Old black-and-white Hollywood photos are warmly lit by wall sconces and decorative pendants.

“We convinced the client to go with darker tones for the space. We were then able to leverage the natural light to create contrast.” - Anna Filippova

Brass detailings are repeated throughout the restaurant, spotted at the bar and stools. To create a familiar feel across the varied seating, we used the same material in the booth seating and the stool cushions. We placed bar-height tables along the wall of windows so that customers can enjoy NYC views while eating. The large windows allow for natural light to pour into the restaurant during the day, with hanging pendants to provide a warm light in the evening.
